All the best with Harvey. He is lucky to have such a devoted owner like you. This has been a very interesting thread.
Thank you Dr Ken for the advice you have been giving on this forum. It is nice that you are willing to help people and give up your time to do it. I think it means a lot to those you have helped. The dog owner in Perth are lucky they have such a dedicated vet. This is a great website and worth bookmarking for future use.

Thanks JT.

Oncologist supplied 12mg of Cyclophamide and 50mg Procarbazine daily.

His only had one dose last night so hard to be sure but his lost his appetite and is even more lethargic I think.

Bad side effect? Considering not giving anymore

assuming he's had the procarb before and not had problems, the cyclophosphamide i have NEVER seen short term side effects at that dose. It can cause bladder damage, and typically 6 months down the track. I would be very certain that any ill effects are not related to it after a single dose (unless he was actually allergic to the capsule itself perhaps). I have used it at more than 50 times that dose (as a single dose pre-bone marrow transplant) and even then most dogs did not develop nausea.
lastly, make sure the capsules are swallowed into the stomach - follow with a 10mL syringe full of water perhaps.

Sadly Harv went down hill quickly and Sunday night was a struggle. I arranged to let him go this morning (mon) at home.
They lymphs under his jaw were growing by the hour with surrounding inflammation. The poor boy had a fever and was not well at all.

Very sad, massive part of my life. Was much nicer letting him go at home than at the vet hospital for both of us I think.

I'm sure his already caught up with chilli and their chasing roos down the beach right now.

Thanks for taking the time to give your advise and assistance on here Ken, a wonderful resource.

Hi Dan

Sorry to hear the sad news about Harvey. Its hard enough to lose one dog to cancer but two just doesnt seem fair. You gave him every possible chance and I am sure he knew how special he was to you. It is very hard to make the decision to let them go but you did the right thing for him. As someone who has seen the other side of dog owners on a regular basis he was so lucky he found you as you really took great care of him. Not all dogs get to have an owner as good as you.

My thoughts are with you at this time. He is now with Chilli probably up to mischief. RIP Harvey

I'm sorry to hear Harvey's gone. You did everything possible to keep his quality of life up - it is never easy any time but especially when they go down fast. From a patient's point of view though, I'm guessing it is probably better quick than drawn out. He would have been grateful for all of your care.
