After reading information supplied on this fabulous site, I questioned the diagnosis I was given for my Rotti (he died 5 years ago) I was told he had a neurological condition, however I do question was the lump on his head perhaps a cancer? I did not know about the Perth Pet Specialist vets at the time and I know I I tried researching his condition on line but very little was available. Would just like to say thanks for this fabulous site, each time I log in I learn something new and it having easy language to understand is fabulous. Well done

One thing that is just so important is that owners always get pathology results from lumps on their dogs. It can make a difference for survival. If you read Frodos story you will find out the opinion I got at the time from his vet after the lump was removed was that it wasnt cancer. Fortunately I asked for the tumour to be sent to the lab. That is why he is still with me. Always do that no matter what the opinion of the vet is.

I remember being in a panic to get treatment started once I found out it was cancer and even Dr Wyatt would not start any treatment until he got further results from the tests he conducted. He wanted to know precisely what it was he was treating and explained to me that using the wrong treatment for the wrong cancer would be detrimental to Frodo. Now if with all his training he was not prepared to take an educated guess I think that tells you a lot. Oncologists are trained specifically in the field of cancer and they dont take a stab in the dark.

As for PVS there is a range of specialists there including oncology (who treated Frodo) internal medicine, dermatology, surgery, fantastic radiology equipment and a great after hours clinic so there is someone with your pets around the clock. If you look at the links page you will find the list of other Australian Specialist facilities that provide similar clinics for people in other states.
