I did give Frodo supplements when he went through his chemo and it took them until he passed away from vinca poisoning. It is REALLY important prior to adding any supplements when a dog is having treatment for cancer to not add them until your oncologist had approved it. Some supplements could interfere with effectiveness of the treatment. I got a list of supplements from a holistic vet and took that to Frodo's oncologist who is Dr Ken from this forum. The dose of the Calcium Ascorbate or Vitamin C had to be reduced which I did.
Do these supplements work? Well I can't find recognised published studies to say they do. Would I use alternative treatments to treat cancer instead of conventional medicine like chemotherapy? No not at this point in time. The treatments we now have available are the best that science can give us that is evidence based. Oncologists have a lot of different options they can use. If I think giving approved supplements to a dog of mine helpswhilst being treated I will do it
As for The Dog Cancer Survival Guide I have it myself. I am a big fan of one of the co-authors Dr Sue Ettinger who gets some good results I share her facebook posts and have some material of hers on the website. She also has her See Something Do Something Campaign out there educating dog owners not to wait in doing something about tumours.
