Vet Participation
The Animal Health Trust is looking for tissue samples from dogs when they get tumours removed. This needs the help of vets and dog owners who are interested in being involved in helping cancer research. If you think your vet might be interested in helping with this research take this paperwork to your vet. When your vet contacts us, we will make the necessary arrangements for them to be included. Worldwide participation.
United Kingdom
The Animal Health Trust is looking to find purebred dogs who may be going into surgery for tumour removal. It can be ANY breed of purebred dog that can assist with these samples.
There are five types of cancer that they are needing tissue samples from
Gioma
Mast Cell Tumour
Lymphoma
Soft Tissue Sarcoma
Meningioma
The correct diagnosis of these tumours can only be done if the tumour is being sent to the laboratory for pathology.
If surgery is planned for your purebred dog, a sample can be removed from the tumour and put into a container and your vet can put that sample into the freezer. The rest of the tumour is then sent for pathology.
If the pathology report comes back and indicates one of the above tumours, you can contact the AHT and they will send a preservative to your vet so the tumour that is stored in the freezer can be sent back to the AHT. This sample will need to have a copy of the pathology report with it. A copy of the Consent form will also have to be enclosed.
It is important if you ask your vet to do this, that the AHT Consent form is signed and given to your vet before surgery. Please also give your vet a copy of the information sheet below so they know the requirements.
